NEXT ELECTION : SUNDAY, 9 JUNE 2024
FOR MAYOR, DEPUTY MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCILLORS
DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS 2 APRIL 2024.
EU citizens resident in Cyprus are eligible to vote in local and European Parliament elections
but they must register on the special election rolls (see below). Download the forms and registration info on this site under Voting Downloads.
Why register to vote in Local Elections?
It is your right. As an EU national resident in Cyprus, your
vote is valuable & of great interest to political parties.
Unlike many other countries, a vote in Cyprus counts, as this
is small population. This your chance to make
your voice heard about important issues that affect you.
Come election time, voters are highly sought-after.
If you want to be listened to, register to vote.
Registering to vote brings govt. funding to communities as electoral rolls are used to estimate
needs such as a Post Office, emergency services.
Apathy and abstention give strength to the existing ineffective
and unresponsive system.
Is that what you really want ?
As part of a small Municipality (about 2,500 registered voters in Pegeia), your vote actually counts for something.
We encourage you not to wait until just before the next election.
You never know, there could be a by-election at any time.
Please read below for further info on how to register to vote.
Voter registration forms for both Municipal and European Parliamentary electoral rolls can be found at District Offices, Citizen Advice Bureaus and from the Coalition Facebook page.
Registering is easy. For further assistance, get in touch with us and we’ll guide you through the process.
How to register to vote in Municipal Elections
1. Complete the form, “Application for Registration in the Special Electoral List for European Community Electors (Article 8 Municipal and Community Elections (Citizens of other Member States) Law of 2004)”.
2. Proof of EU citizenship, including ID with a photograph (e.g., passport).
3. Proof of residence for at least six months in Cyprus or in an EU Member State (Immigration “yellow” slip).
4. A digital photo is now required, available for free at District and Citizen Advice Offices.
How to register to vote for the EU Parliamentary Elections
1. Complete the “Application for Registration in the Special Electoral List for European Community Electors (Article 9(2) Elections of Members of the European Parliament Law of 2004)”.
2. Proof of EU citizenship, including ID with a photograph (e.g., passport).
3. Proof of residence for at least six months in an EU Member State (i.e., Immigration “yellow” slip).
NOTE: If you are already registered to vote in local elections, it is even easier to register for the EU electoral roll as you are already in the system.
It makes sense to register for both lists at the same time (avoiding the need to return later to register for the local elections).
